pieces

restless neighbours, restless dogs, restless night.
rooster cracks the edge of a new day. a pillow is no defence.

a black bird in a white gown,
long curved beak mining cracks in the sunburnt clay.

two avocado seedlings consider their prospects
from flower pots, newly transplanted.

Often they are inspired by Dave Bonta's Morning Porch.
